Andreas Golder, your funny.

Hahahha. Okay, towards the end you can tell hes drunken some beer. Fucking hilarious, I love it.
Talking about how one of his small paintings is basically made out of trash and is sold for big money. Gotta love contemporary art like that sometimes. This truly made me laugh and sympathize with him.

I just love Gerhard Richter. And such a modest man.

A friend just sent me this. How cute.

Changes....

I really like the concept of this video. In the end, it actually has a bit of that apocalyptic touch with the whole 2012 disastrous things will happen the the world don't be like it was before aka forget about the corporates being the big ones anymore and money will not be a priority anymore as we find ourselves desperately searching for food and a light source....something along those lines. Im most probably reading too much into, but I do think the content of the video touches on this in a way.

Anyways. I always enjoy a bit of destruction in videos, with some slow-motion and poetic music. I like the concept, but the video could be a bit better I think.

And what is the fashion about then? The bit we saw did look like business suit style, or am I missing out on a subtle difference which portrays this changed man of Western commercial society? I did not have a look at the website of the designer yet, but I do think its important that a fashion video shows enough to reveal what the collection is about. But then again...it can also be abstract. I guess thats something interesting to have a think about!

What really do we expect/want in a fashion video?
There don't really seem to be any rules. Which is a good thing! But then again, shouldn't a fashion film help us understand what the fashion and brand are about?

More directed by Sean Metelerkamp

Ha Ha. Awesome.

Directed by Sean Metelerkamp

I love this video so much, its so hilarious. How epic is a) the fact that hes wearing Pink Floyd worn out boxer, and then b) the scene where he gleefully shakes his hips and she (blondie, sorry don't know her name) slightly gives a lustful look (wrong interpretation?). I love the side angle in this shot.
Anyways, Die Antwoord are quite some characters. Haha. And I love the interviewing parts too.
Simply, short and great!

"you know it makes my heart beat"

"Rose, c'est Paris"

A glorious photography exhibition telling a seductive story set in Paris which aims to express a sexually enchanting and mysterious side of Paris. A black and white film and accompanying photographs express this vision and assimilation of impressions of Paris divided up by street addresses.
The photography is by Bettina Rheims and the script of the film by Serge Bramly.
It looks like a lot of work to bring to life, and Im happy they did it! I loved it.

Anyways, all I can say is see the exhibit and I LOVE Bettina Rheims. Amazing woman.

Its showing at the BNF [click]

"I AM LOVE"

A new film with Tinda Swinton. Looks interesting!
The beginning if the trailer is so similar to the one of A Single Man. The same aim for dramatic tension. This film will surely be grasping to watch!

Amoklove - true sensibility for falling in love

I saw an amazing student film at the European Independent Film Festival (ÈCU) this weekend!
Its called Amoklove, and its a German short film written and directed by Julia Kaiser from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

It was truely a great piece. So intimate and real, you could taste that feeling of falling in love as portrayed by the protagonist. The editing style and music gives a very vivacious and touching impression of feelings we all can relate to. Those of love and the unknowning.
Enjoy!

And god bless, their trailer is on youtube so I can share!

"Stupid" is the new cool according to DIESEL

Its not that I want to be part of the 'stupid' crew, but I must say I'm impressed by the marketing concept. Good job, I do believe they reaching their target audience pretty successfully with their whole 'Be Stupid" campaign.

"When your chasing rabbits..."

Watched the film The Game (1997) today, directed by David Fincher. A great movie, the ending really cringes your nerves!!!!

When the credits rolled up at the end this amazing song by Jefferson Airplane, a band from San Francisco and part of the Woodstock experience came on. Love how the lead vocalist sings, and the lyrics are wise.

80's flashing forward, in HURTS

Newcomer band Hurts, not that much to find on youtube to spare (yet I'm hoping), but this song, its a fave. Heard it live at the Michalsky Style Nite in Januar this year and it sounded great live! And the singer, Theo Theo Hutchcraft, and Adam Anderson look so New Wave, their looks were a true gem for the night. Wish more people would look/dress like them. Would be such a beauty....can I please teleport back to the 80's asap ? ? ?

Anyways, wanted to share the song. Enjoy!

Mala Noche, the genius Van Sant

Watched Mala Noche (1985) by Gus Vant Sant today, such a photographically exciting and beautiful piece. Countless number of stills from the film that could be absolute photographic masterpieces.
Its his first real film, and its definitely worth a watch, most especially if you have a thing for photography, street photography, love interesting lighting, gloomliness, contrast, dirty interesting streets people and places......
Snatched some stills off google

So funny, theres even a short scene where Gus Van Sant appears playing some guy working in the cheap hotel the main characters Mexican friends are staying at. Very short sequence, but it thought it was cool seeing him. Unfortunately I couldn't find a still off the internet from this scene, would love to share it with you.

Anyways, jut watch the film, alright!? That will solve the problem.
Here the trailer from some pre-tasting. Promise you'll watch it?

Oh, and look here, I even found part of the intro on youtube

A documentary view into a punk's life

Niall O'Brien is a photographer and filmmaker from Dublin.

A quote from his website:
"His commissioned work is of a gritty, contemporary style, which seamlessly blurs the boundaries between the conceptual and the aesthetic. His growing collection of intimate portraits concentrates on unusual subjects with whom Niall develops a close working relationship. Niall's long-term project "Superheroes" came from a film which he made in 2006 and has been an on-going documentary about adolescence and desire."

Below you can watch the clip from "Superheroes" featured on his website.

Superheroes from Niall O'Brien on Vimeo.

Link to Niall O'Brien's website [click]

I enjoy documentaries following the themes of adolescence, such as here a group of punks. There seemingly just 'doing their thing', letting an outsider come in and take some shots, a relaxed relation seemingly existing between the observer and his subjects which gives you as the audience a feeling of authenticity.
In documentaries such as this one, I personally feel like there's a search for a meaning beneath. What does it mean for these punks to BE punks? How did this come about? Why?
These are questions the subjects themselves probably hardly think about. They just do what they do.

All I've seen of "Superheroes" is this clip right here, so don't misunderstand me by thinking these thoughts are precisely related to the content of O'Brien's film. Its simply thoughts that have come to mind after viewing the clip.

There's a great world of fascination within the attempt to classify, 'decode', individuals by the group they join in. There so much to say and then again not. But regardless of how unique or different an individual tries to be, there is always someone or even many someone's out there you can identify yourself with. Maybe that is something you wish were not the case, or something your longing for but cannot find. Or you've already found such a group. But there will always be some one else who's like minded, I truely wish to believe so, if not it could get quite lonely, don't you think? Self recognition and appreciation is the number one importance, but your still going to want to find someone to identify with and thus be able to exchange meaningful thoughts to thus develop them and grow expand and feel inspired.

Rookie interviewing Rodarte for Style.com

Cute interview video done by Rookie for www.style.com about Rodarte.
Sweet. Its actually quite endearing to see a very young and seemingly more free talk of fashion. Its more about the fun and play, the beauty of creativity, than any sort of business or often times overdone and superficial seriousness in the fashion world.

Garance is also getting into the video hype

I quite like Garance Dore's video from the Givenchy fashion show.
The cutting of images, those quick flips back and forth, matching to the music, I like that a lot.
Unfortunately can't repost the video here, but have a look at her blog to see it!
